When preparing for the very first Chrono24 GTG in Germany, we wanted to make sure everything was perfect. The location, our headquarters, was a given. The speakers, Eric Wind and Robert-Jan Broer, were good friends of ours, so getting them to come to Germany was a no-brainer. However, we needed to find a great gift for our guests. While watch enthusiasts don’t (hopefully) attend get-togethers just for the goodie bag, we still wanted to send them home with something special. Then we came up with an idea: Let’s ask Teun van Heerebeek from Fratello Watches to create an illustration exclusively for us. He was more than happy to oblige, and the result was amazing. Forty exclusive posters were printed, numbered, and signed by Teun for our GTG guests. We are absolutely delighted that this illustration has made it into Teun’s first book, “60 Minutes.
We asked the author more about his new publication and how it came to be:
Chrono24: What was the motivation behind the new Watches & Pencils book?
Teun: After 5 years of Watches & Pencils, I thought it was time for a special release to celebrate this milestone. At the end of 2018, I decided on a book with a nice overview of the 60 best illustrations. I wanted to accompany them not only with information about the watches but also background stories and fun facts about the illustrations themselves.
Chrono24: Why the title “60 Minutes?” What does it symbolize?
Teun: I wanted to link it to watches. A normal table of contents would have been boring. I thought it would be a fun nod to time, so I went for “60 minutes” – 60 illustrations in 60 minutes. The book, therefore, counts down from 60 to 0.
Chrono24: How was each illustration made, and who does the work?
Teun: Each illustration comes with information about the project and the process behind it. Of course, there is also information about the watch in each work. The book is intended to be a picture book, conversation starter, and to simply bring smiles to the faces of watch enthusiasts.
If you want to get your hands on a copy of Teun’s “60 Minutes,” act fast. The book is limited to a run of 300 copies. Each book is numbered and signed by Teun. The book isn’t huge at 21 x 21 cm (8.3 x 8.3 in), but it has almost 140 pages covering a wide range of brands. You’ll find the best of Teun’s work from the last 5 years, including some exclusive, never-before-published illustrations (like our GTG piece). Every illustration has an accompanying text that tells you a bit about the image and how it came to be. The book is printed in English. You can order your own copy on the Watches & Pencils webshop for the very reasonable price of €70 (approx. $77).
