The Ultimate Diving Watch: Panerai Radiomir California Reference PAM00424

We’re back once again to zoom in close on a particular watch model. In this installment, we’re taking a closer look at the Panerai Radiomir California 3 Days ref. PAM00424. As long as the model name is, Panerai’s history is even longer. Giovanni Panerai founded his watchmaking business in Florence, Italy in 1860. In 1938, the Italian navy commissioned the family company to create robust and easy-to-read diving watches. Panerai’s solution was to outfit manual Rolexes with their own dials featuring Radiomir luminous material, offering excellent readability even in water. Much has changed since then.

The company eventually transitioned to ETA movements, and today they also build in-house movements like the P.999, making them independent from other brands. What has remained the same, however, are the watch’s unmistakable aesthetics and features. This model, the PAM00424, has a case befitting particularly large-wristed action heroes, like Sylvester Stallone, for example. Measuring 47 mm in diameter and 16 mm thick, the steel case has an unusual crescent-shaped bracket that protects the crown from impacts. What’s really special about this Radiomir is its California dial, which sets itself apart with both Roman and Arabic numerals. But this watch has more to offer than just a flashy dial. The display case back allows you to admire the movement, as well. So, what else makes this watch so attractive for many watch enthusiasts? Find out more by watching the video.
