What watch are you currently wearing?
I’m wearing my Junghans Meister Telemeter Chronoscope.
Why this watch?
The main reason I’m a fan of the brand is that my great-grandfather owned a few Junghans watches. When I found out about this, and he gave me one of his watches, my mind was made up – Junghans was going to be my first choice. You have to keep up the family tradition, after all. Additionally, the design of this model really speaks to me. The colorful accents, the sunken dial, and the telemeter scale – it’s just a lovely timepiece! The telemeter scale for measuring distances is no longer necessary these days, but in the World War II era, it could be used to determine the distance from a bomb explosion with relative accuracy, for example. It’s dramatic to think about that, but at the same time very interesting.
What have you experienced with this watch?
As this was my first mechanical watch, the whole process was a new experience for me, from the initial considerations and research to the final purchase. It was important for me to have the watch before my wedding, so that I could wear it on my special day. On our honeymoon, my wife and I traveled through Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, so this watch has already racked up some serious mileage.
What role does this watch play in your collection?
It has a certain emotional significance as my first mechanical watch. It was the start of my collection, so to speak.
What fascinates you about watches in general?
I find the history behind the brands and models particularly fascinating, and I think it’s wonderful that this little machine is designed to tell the time and also withstand the test of time!
What was your first watch?
My first watch was almost certainly a Fossil. Today I view watches differently than I did back then, but I was still quite happy to wear a watch on my wrist.
What watch is your “grail” watch?
I already own it! It’s my great-grandfather’s watch, which my father passed down to me as a wedding gift.
Do you have a favorite brand?
If you’ll allow a top 5, then I would include Omega, Rolex, Sinn, and Seiko, in addition to Junghans. I value these five brands for their history, image, and aesthetic.
What watch would you like to buy next?
I often find myself thinking about the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra these days. That’s certainly a sign! But I haven’t made any plans toward a purchase yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.
