In November 2018, haute horlogerie brand Laurent Ferrier won first prize in the men’s complication category at the annual Grand Prix d’Horlogerie in Geneva with their Galet Annual Calendar Montre Ecole. At the SIHH 2019, the brand will release a new edition of the successful watch with the Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black and White.

This new Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black and White was designed and produced completely in-house and inspired by the purity and contrast of a chess board. The two watches, with their contrasting black and white dials and round pocket-watch-inspired shapes, feature an annual calendar complication that is characterized by its perfect readability and easy handling.
The watch is powered by the manual winding Laurent Ferrier Caliber n°126.01, which has a power reserve of 80 hours and pays tribute to the first manual winding Ferrier movement with a tourbillon double hairspring. This brand new Caliber n°126.01 features a long blade-like click ratchet that became a signature feature of the earlier movement. The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black and White displays the day of the week, the date, and the month. You only need to adjust the watch once a year as the movement registers 30-day and 31-day months. Thus, the only time you need to adjust the date is on the 1st of March. You can do so by simply turning the crown forward or backward.
The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black and White features a round 40-mm case that comes in red gold or yellow gold. The dial comes in opaline black or white with vintage-inspired numerals for the date painted around the edge of the dial. The white version features light blue numerals except for the number 31, which is burgundy. The dark dials, in turn, feature lighter numerals and a red number 31. The date is indicated by a central hand and the days of the week and month are displayed in two beveled apertures. The version with the white dial features a honey-colored alligator leather strap and the version with the black dial comes with a matte gray alligator leather strap.
Overall, this watch is a true example of watchmaking excellence. It’s a testament to Laurent Ferrier’s vision of combining classic looks with perfect readability, technical excellence, and impeccable finishing.
